Part One of Two

Foundations of Women’s Heart Health

June 24, 2026Understanding Risk and Warning SignsPart One introduced common cardiovascular risk factors, women’s heart-health concerns, and why symptoms deserve timely attention rather than assumptions or self-diagnosis.
Between SessionsReflect and Write Down QuestionsParticipants were encouraged to consider what they learned, note anything they wanted clarified, and submit questions so the follow-up could respond to the community’s priorities.
Common risk factors: High blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, excess weight, physical inactivity, age, and family history can affect cardiovascular risk. Pregnancy-related conditions and menopause may also be relevant to a woman’s history and should be discussed with a qualified clinician.

Open Q&A and Follow-Up Discussion

The second session gave Jessica an opportunity to address submitted questions, reinforce the most important lessons from Part One, and discuss how women can communicate more clearly with healthcare professionals about symptoms and risk factors.

What Women Were Encouraged to Notice

  • Chest pressure, squeezing, fullness, pain, or discomfort should be taken seriously.
  • Shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, unusual fatigue, cold sweat, or pain in the back, neck, jaw, arms, or stomach can also occur with a heart attack.
  • Symptoms can be subtle, may come and go, and should not automatically be dismissed as stress, reflux, aging, or anxiety.
  • Calling emergency services is safer than driving yourself when heart-attack warning signs are present.
Emergency warning: Call 911 for possible heart-attack symptoms, sudden collapse, unresponsiveness, or abnormal breathing. A wellness class, HBAT session, online article, or scheduled office visit is not an appropriate substitute for emergency evaluation.
