Three Summer Habits That Can Throw Off Digestion

Summer travel, heat, changing schedules, and unfamiliar foods can affect hydration, bowel regularity, appetite, and digestive comfort.

1. Relying on Ice-Cold, High-Sugar Drinks All Day

Cold drinks do not automatically damage digestion or “cool the core.” The more practical concern is what those drinks contain and whether they replace water, balanced meals, or adequate hydration. Large iced coffees, sugary smoothies, and sweetened beverages can add significant caffeine or sugar and may aggravate reflux, bloating, or urgency in some people.

Try this: Keep water available throughout the day, choose the temperature that feels comfortable, and treat sweetened drinks as an occasional choice rather than your main hydration source.

2. Letting Travel Replace Your Entire Routine

Travel often changes sleep, movement, meal timing, food choices, water sources, and bathroom habits. These disruptions can contribute to constipation, diarrhea, bloating, or an unsettled stomach.

  • Carry safe drinking water and refill it regularly.
  • Pack familiar fiber-rich snacks when practical.
  • Move during long drives or flights when it is safe to do so.
  • Use safe food and water practices when traveling.
  • Keep essential medications and approved supplements in your travel kit.

3. Eating at Completely Different Times Every Day

Your digestive system responds to daily patterns involving meals, sleep, movement, and light exposure. An occasional late meal is not a crisis, but repeatedly skipping meals and then eating heavily late at night may affect hunger, reflux, sleep, and glucose regulation.

Try this: Keep a flexible meal window instead of a rigid clock. Aim for a repeatable breakfast, lunch, and dinner pattern that still works when your summer schedule changes.

Persistent bloating, severe abdominal pain, blood in the stool, ongoing diarrhea, vomiting, unexplained weight loss, or constipation that does not improve should be discussed with an appropriately licensed healthcare professional.
Client Win of the Week

Jeromy's Veterans Program Experience

Personal stories can show what a wellness routine meant to one person, while still recognizing that another client's experience may be different.

“I started the Veterans program three weeks ago, and it has been a very unexpected blessing. I have had several injuries in recent years, along with heat-related illness. The program is a process, and I will not say it is always easy, but it has been worth it for me.

My energy, focus, happiness, confidence, endurance, libido, and motivation feel higher than they have in quite a while, even with TRT, diet, and exercise. Everyone is different, so I cannot say another person will experience the same change.

The owners and staff genuinely care about improving the quality of life of the people who walk through the door. The science, technology, and community have been special to me. I am Jeromy, a U.S. Air Force veteran, born and raised in Oklahoma City, and I thank God daily for this program.”

How to Support Your Wellness Goals Between Sessions

The habits you repeat outside the chamber can influence hydration, recovery, sleep, nutrition, stress, and how clearly you can evaluate your own progress.

1. Hydrate Consistently

Water needs vary with heat, activity, medications, illness, and diet. Electrolytes can be useful after heavy sweating or prolonged exercise, but more sodium or minerals are not automatically better for everyone.

People with kidney disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, fluid restrictions, or medications that affect electrolytes should ask a healthcare professional before routinely adding salt, potassium, or magnesium to drinks.

2. Prioritize Whole Foods and Fiber

A varied eating pattern built around vegetables, fruit, beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and appropriate protein supports fiber intake and overall digestive health. Increase fiber gradually and pair it with adequate fluids.

3. Consider NeurOptimal Neurofeedback

NeurOptimal is a form of dynamical neurofeedback that provides real-time information about brain activity. The manufacturer positions it as non-invasive brain training for general well-being rather than a diagnostic or medical treatment.

4. Learn About Avazzia Microcurrent Devices

Avazzia offers FDA-cleared over-the-counter and prescription electrical stimulation devices with model-specific indications. Over-the-counter devices are cleared for temporary relief of pain associated with sore and aching muscles from exercise or normal household work.

Avazzia safety: The manufacturer warns against use by people with a pacemaker or another implantable electrical device and by people who are pregnant or nursing. Always follow the manual for the specific device.

Hyperbaric Plus plans to offer practical Avazzia education. Class dates, registration details, and the exact devices covered will be announced separately.

Coming Soon: Full-Body Red-Light Sessions

Red and near-infrared photobiomodulation devices are used in both research and general-wellness settings. Device wavelength, power, distance, duration, and intended use all matter, and personal responses vary.

Red-light sessions should not be described as guaranteed to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, repair injuries, detox the body, or energize cells in every person. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and disclose photosensitizing medications or light-sensitive conditions.
Behind the Session

What Is a Dive Captain, and Why Does the Role Matter?

A Dive Captain manages the operational steps of each Hyperbaric Plus session and monitors the chamber environment from start to finish.

Under the current Hyperbaric Plus operating protocol, the Dive Captain manages valves and airflow, follows the chamber computer, communicates with clients, and adjusts pressurization and depressurization for a steady, comfortable session.

  • Reviews client readiness and session instructions before entry.
  • Monitors pressure, airflow, timing, and client communication.
  • Guides the controlled descent and return to surface pressure.
  • Responds to ear discomfort, anxiety, or other concerns during the session.
  • Confirms full depressurization before opening the chamber.
  • Reminds clients to move carefully when exiting the chamber.
Chamber depth descriptions, pressure settings, session duration, and ascent procedures are facility-specific operational details. Clients should follow the instructions given by the Hyperbaric Plus team during each visit.
